Another PEAK Award Recognition in 2016

PEAK award 2016

Four Lakes Label already has an 8-year streak of PEAK Award recognition, but this year was particularly special. For the first time in PEAK history, Four Lakes’ entries were judged against all others and determined to be some of the best overall.

Efforts to help Mer-Sea & Co. create product labels earned Four Lakes a 2016 Gold PEAK Award, as well as a 2016 Silver PEAK Award for product labels on “Warheads Brand” Super Sour Spray Candy. The Print Services & Distribution Association (PSDA) PEAK Awards program recognizes excellence in the print industry promoting projects that display innovation, notable quality or produce high return on investment.

Mer-Sea & Co. delivers an island retreat in a bottle with their line of sea salt inspired body wash and lotion. They needed a product label that was alluring like the beach itself, yet durable enough to withstand the demands of a bathroom/shower environment. “Since it was critical to keep branding elements, we used a synthetic material and matte overlaminate. This gave the label a stylish and serene look like the product itself, yet protected it from the demands of prolonged use in a bath or shower,” added Greg Retzer, Manager National Sales for Four Lakes.

Despite an extremely tight deadline, we convinced the client to allow extra time for testing to deliver a product label that exceeded rather than just met expectations. Exceed it did—the client was very pleased with the ongoing communication and collaboration, and received many compliments.

Our challenge for the “Warheads Brand” Super Sour Candy was to create a label that was an exact match of the current substrate, adhesive and production colors with specific orders for continued color printing consistency. The candy also had to have a twist-off, tamper-resistant seal feature.

The solution involved researching and testing to develop a specialty die to create a CMYK flexo printed label with two enhanced spot colors. An overlaminate gloss varnish on bright silver poly material made this candy stand out on store shelves, while an ultra-thin substrate was developed to save money and withstand the sticky candy contents inside.

There were mulitple positive kudos for the label’s color, wrapping and ease of peeling off the substrate around the plastic product to open it. Subsequent orders broadened to multiple colors with continued orders this year.

The Mer-Sea & Co. product label also won a 2016 Best of Division Graphic Excellence Award from the Great Lakes Graphics Association in the Flexo Narrow Web Labels and Wraps, Rolled Products/Pressure Sensitive Category.

“We’re honored to contribute to these award-winning labels and proud of the teamwork and satisfaction we delivered to our customer for their product label results,” noted Retzer.

Another Grand PEAK Award Win in 2014

PEAK award 2014

Everyone knows seven is a lucky number. But it has added value for us, and our parent company, Western States Envelope & Label—a consecutive, seven-time recipient of the PEAK Awards.

The Print Services & Distribution Association (PSDA) PEAK Awards program recognizes excellence in the print industry promoting projects that display innovation, notable quality or produce high return on investment.

We earned the prestigious Grand Award in the Best Green Solution for Client category for its Spring Into Action Compostable Seed Stake Label.

The Spring Into Action label promoted Western States’ commitment to the environment with a small seed stake featuring a compostable label with sunflower seeds attached. This earth-friendly label and stake is vibrantly visible in a garden, yet easily disintegrates when exposed to the weather.

"We are thrilled to be PEAK recipients for seven years in a row," noted Greg Retzer, Manager National Sales. "This recognition is a testament to our daily commitment to innovation—we love helping our customers set new standards in the industry.”

Our Grand PEAK Award Win in 2013

PEAK award 2013

Many often say three’s a charm, but we contest that six is even better. That’s because we received a Print Excellence and Knowledge (PEAK) Award in 2013, making this our sixth year in a row.

We earned a Grand Award in the Labels/Tags category for a unique product label for “Big Papa Dill Pickles.” Since these pickles are sold from convenient store and concession stand counters, this 4 x 6 product container label had to successfully withstand constant wiping and cleaning of pickle juices. This is just one example of how we help customers find the right products for their needs.

Hosted by the Print Services and Distribution Association (PSDA), the PEAK Awards highlight unique and successful print applications. This prestigious competition honors print professionals who provide their customers with outstanding, value-added products and services that creatively solve challenges and improve business functions.

"Receiving a PEAK for six consecutive years is amazing," noted Greg Retzer, Manager National Sales. "I am so proud of the daily dedication and partnerships I see between our customers and employees."

PEAK awards were presented at the 2013 Distributor Solutions Expo on May 9 at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL. For more about the 2013 PEAK Awards and recipients, go to www.pdsa.org.
